Selecting the Best Graphics Card for Your Gaming PC

There are two essentials to any major gaming computer system, the RAM, and the graphics card. If you don’t have these two, then you will not be able to play your games, or if you do, they will run very slow and crash every few minutes, making playing your favorite game more stressful than relaxing, which doesn’t help you any after a long day at work.

Walk into your local electronics store, and you will likely find many different graphics cards, all claiming to be the best. You have the unfortunate task of determining which one really is the best to purchase and install in your gaming computer. You know you need to get a card that is compatible with your motherboard and operating system, one that has its own onboard RAM, and one that will be able to smoothly run your favorite online games, but you also have to find a graphics card that will fit your budget, which is not always an easy task.

You know if you ask for help from the store salesman, he is going to direct you to the most expensive card of the floor and swear it is the best thing since the invention of the automobile, but you also know that he is there to make a commission, and that the more money he can get you to spend, the more money he will make. Before going to the store, you should do some research into the different kinds of graphics cards, and the benefits offered. Maybe look into different manufacturers, and read some user reviews on specific cards, so that you can make a more informed decision when it comes time to purchase your own.

One thing that you need to make certain of is what resolution is required by your favorite game, and then find a graphics card that is able to at least support that resolution, if not a little bit better. The higher the resolution, the better the detail will be, so keep that in mind.

You will likely find that you are going to better served by a graphics card that is either manufactured by NVIDIA or ATI. As stated before, you want to make sure the card has onboard RAM, so it won’t leech RAM that your game needs to function. You can find some graphics cards for around $100, but to get the really best card for your gaming PC, you can expect to spend at least $300, or more. Take the time and do some comparison shopping, you might find a steal, just be certain that you are getting what you pay for.

If you buy your graphics card from your local electronics store, they will likely install it for you, for a fee. This is a great thing if your aren’t that comfortable doing it yourself, but you will likely be able to find a much better deal on the same card through an online merchant, if you are willing to install it on your own. It really isn’t that difficult, just follow the directions, or look online to find out more information on how to install a graphics card in your gaming PC.
